Hoedspruit is a town situated at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg ('Dragon Mountains'), in the Limpopo province of South Africa on the old Selati railway line from Phalaborwa to Kaapmuiden.

Hoedsprtuit has a large Air Force Base close by. The following lodger units are found on the base:- 19 Squadron (Oryx and Augusta Helicopters), LASS, Air Force Command & Control School, 101 Reserve Squadron and 514 Security Squadron. The base is also used for deployments from external units. Civilian aircraft have been given permission to land on the military runway. They use the civilian terminal which is called Eastgate.

Hoedspruit normally receives about 410mm of rain per year, with most rainfall occurring mainly during mid summer. It receives the lowest rainfall (0mm) in July and the highest (84mm) in December. The average midday temperatures for Hoedspruit range from 23.3°C in June to 30.2°C in January. The region is the coldest during July when the mercury drops to 7.1°C on average during the night.
