Dating back to 1854 Port Nolloth is an Authentic and charming old harbour village on South-Africa’s West Coast. Captain Nolloth arrived here in November 1854 on the HMS FROLIC. He reported that Robbe Bay was an excellent anchorage for vessels of light draught and far more suitable than Hondeklipbay for the shipment of copper ore.

Within a year Port Nolloth flourished. A few hundred inhabitants, 3 bars, no police and no jail, made it an unusual little town. When a better route was found for the copper by road, the main source of employment was fishing. In die late 1920’s the peace and quiet of the relatively unadventurous and now much less busy Port Nolloth was abruptly disturbed by the discovery of diamonds in the vicinity.

People have come and gone, fortunes made and lost, some have perished in pursuit of riches and others have flourished. So please do not expect the ordinary here in the wild, Wild West. Hear the colourful stories of odd characters and bounty hunters, sad tales of sunken ships, and dramatic stories of diamond smuggling.

Today Port Nolloth’ main industry is marine diamond dredging, the village is frequented by tourists wanting to explore the ship wrecks, seal colonies, and the marine diamond mining in the region, as well as the Nama culture and Richtersveld
